NewBioPic2016-06Her music is described by many as “Taylor Swift meets Avril Lavigne” because it’s a blend of edgy pop with heartfelt lyrics. Rachel Olivia Brett is an 21 year old singer/songwriter from Missouri. She has lived in towns large and small from Washington DC to rural Mississippi. Today she calls Los Angeles home and is enjoying life in the “City of Angels.” Her music has always been a way for her to connect with people wherever she has lived. She has been writing songs or “poems” as she called them since she was a young child. She has notebooks full of the songs she has written. She taught herself how to play guitar and began putting music to her lyrics. She began performing in Branson at the age of nine at venues including Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede pre-show and Dick Clark’s Area 57. When she was twelve she won two Gold Medals for pop and country solos at the American Kids National Finals. Most recently she was in the Texaco Country Showdown songwriting competition and won Best Performer for the West Coast Songwriters showcase. Rachel released her debut EP in 2011 with all original music and she played guitar on every song. She recorded this album at the historic Ardent Studios in Memphis with Jason Latshaw as producer and Rock n Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Potts on the drums and Jack Holder on bass. One of the songs from the EP called “Liar” was nominated for Pop Single of the Year by the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Rachel developed her sound as she performed at numerous venues including Six Flags Great America in Chicago, Hard Rock Cafe in Biloxi Beach and the Limelight for CMA week in Nashville. Rachel was accepted as a member of the Recording Academy(GRAMMYS) at the age of sixteen. The next year she went back in the studio to record a new more mature electro pop sound. She recorded her new single “Bad News” with producer Matt Richards at Hope Studios in Kansas City. “Bad News” was released to rave reviews and great fan acceptance. It was on the first round nomination ballot for the 57th Grammy Awards in the Pop Performance Category. Rachel has just teamed up with Matt Richards again to record a new EP which will be released soon.
